    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[This photograph shows four women sewing substantial pieces of heavy fabric on industrial sewing machines equipped with large spools of white thread. Piles of canvas are haphazardly scattered on racks and on the wooden floor of the spartan warehouse space. Several different patterns of wide-striped fabric, one of which is similar to that used on the awnings on the Security Building, at the corner of 8th and Main Streets, may be seen in several of these piles. Other awning pieces are hanging from the ceiling behind the women. A scalloped metal pattern piece is hanging from a wooden post; bare light bulbs hang from the ceiling over the sewing machines. A stove is visible in a corner of the photograph. The number &quot;19&quot; has been written on the emulsion side of the negative and is visible in the upper right corner of the picture. The walls and ceiling are covered with narrow, horizontal and vertical paneling that is finished in a dark stain. Many photographs and calendars are hung on the walls. June 1912 calendars include a monthly one advertising &quot;Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Milwaukee,” an unmarked weekly calendar and another, partially visible, monthly calendar advertising “MILW… VINE… Milwaukee Wis USA.” Hanging above the Northwestern calendar is a framed print of two images of a manufacturing plant. Smoke is clearly visible coming from the smokestacks in the two images. A wall-mounted telephone, with a telephone book dangling from nail or hook on the lower right side of the wooden phone casing, is visible between two windows. Next to desk on the left is a typewriter on a stand and also a bookbinding press. A postage scale is visible on the desk at the right.     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Wallace Row has been identified as a time keeper with the Illinois Central Rail Road. He is standing at the right in the photograph. He is using a typewriter-like machine, perhaps an adding machine, that types onto a narrow roll of paper. Behind and to the left of Mr. Row are three other men working with papers and ledgers and standing at a long, high table. In front of the table is a smaller table on which are numerous papers, stamps, pens, inkwells, and a glass holding paper clips. Behind Mr. Row is an open vault door. The wooden frame around the vault door is ornate and includes an arched frame and center filial over the top of the door. Behind the three unidentified men is another high table up against the back wall. A crank-style pencil sharpener is attached to one end of the table. Attached to the wall behind that table is a large clock in a wooden frame. A sign on the clock reads “U. S. Observatory Time Hourly by W. U. Tel. Co.” To the right of the clock, a framed display of medals and buttons from uniforms is hanging over what appears to be either a pass-through window or an open doorway blocked by the table. A portrait of a man who is partially bald is hanging on another wall. A smaller version of this portrait may also be seen in image number KL 054-393. A day calendar for “Tue 4 Jun,” and advertising “Coates &amp; Robinson,” hangs under the portrait.
