Holding a cigar, a single bartender is standing behind the bar. A cash register, with a sale of twenty five cents is on a counter behind the bar. A sign on the top of the cash register reads “Amount Purchased.” Several glass bottles are visible on either side of the cash register. Several signs, including ones for “Gold Star Pure Beer, Dubuque Star Brewing Co.” and “Banquet Bottle Beer, Dubuque Brewing &amp; Malting Co.,” and a June 1912 calendar are visible above the rear counter.     <dcterms:references><![CDATA[According to the Encyclopedia Dubuque (www.encyclopediadubuque.org), this company was started in 1853 and occupied buildings located at 90 to 104, and 70 to 78 South Main Street. Schroeder-Kleine was strictly a wholesale business. In addition to staple and fancy groceries, the company carried many fixtures for the grocery store including wrapping paper, broom racks, butter tubs, egg cases, scales of various sizes, and a large line of delivery baskets of different materials and sizes.<br />

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Five women and two men are working in a large room. Three of the women are standing at a long work table. Filled bags of coffee are visible on the table. Next to these bags, one woman is filling paper bags at a machine and placing them on the table beside two other women who are closing and sealing the bags. Behind these women, another woman is placing a tin of coffee on a display of additional coffee cans. One man appears to be placing the filled coffee bags on the table. On the other side of the room, another man is working with a machine that seems to be sealing wrapped boxes labeled “Pepper.” Metal duct work, wooden bins and a large, painted concrete pillar are visible next to the work table. Additional packages are stacked in the rear of the room. The number “63” has been written on the emulsion side of the negative and is visible in the upper right corner of the picture.
