White columns are also visible around the front door and a statue is visible over this entrance. A peaked roof is visible between the towers. Small, onion shaped domes can be seen at the corners and above columns in the sides of the building. There is a large lawn in front of the building. The Academy of the Immaculate Conception enrolled girls from 8th through 12th grades. The Academy closed in 1925.     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[A multi-story building dominates this image. The first story is constructed of limestone blocks, while the remaining stories are of brick. A team of horses is pulling a loaded wagon toward the building. Two men, with their backs to the camera, are walking toward one of the first floor entrances. Towers of various sizes are visible at the corners of the building. The phrases “Cry for Justice” and “Hand of Fate” has been printed along the left side of the lantern slide frame. Note that the photographer was a Methodist minister. This image may have been used in one of his temperance lectures. The front entrance faces 11th Street. The words “Carnegie Stout Free Library” have been engraved over the front doors which are reached by steep steps, and flanked by Greek columns. Planters have been placed along the front steps and flower boxes are visible in the windows along Bluff Street. A man is standing in front of the building.     <dcterms:description><![CDATA[This image was taken looking across the quadrangle at the front of the Chapel and tower that were under construction on the campus of Wartburg Seminary. Together with buildings shown in images LO 084 and LO 085, construction for the chapel and tower buildings began in 1914. The complex, which also included classroom and living spaces, was dedicated in 1916. The tower building was specifically modeled after the famous Wartburg Tower in Eisenach, Germany where Martin Luther found refuge in 1521. The buildings were interconnected and were constructed of limestone quarried on site. The address of 1621 Wartburg Avenue is now 333 Wartburg Place.
