Dark, stained shingles resemble a thatched roof. A large covered entry way frames the double doors on the south side of the structure. A smaller arched entry is visible around the front door. Awnings cover most windows, and a wide chimney on the front side of the home extends above the roof. A pergola is visible in the rear yard. Sidewalks extend away from the front door, and also from the side door to the street. According to the Encyclopedia Dubuque, the architectural design was copied from an original photograph taken at Wolver Hampton, England. Nine different types of stone were used in the structure. The home was renovated in 2009, and a commemorative plaque was installed in front of the residence. It reads in part: “Model electric home erected in 1924 by John G. Kuehnle to demonstrate the possibilities of modern scientific planning and building methods.” Mr. Kuehnle was the owner of the Dubuque Electric Company. These "model homes" were constructed using all local materials and featured some of the first modern electrical systems in private residences. The residence is a story and a half in height, with a square, two story tower and a dormer behind the front porch. A wrought iron balcony may be seen below the second story tower window. The roof line is heavily sculpted. A covered porch extends along the front of the home, and a sun room, also displaying a sculped roof line, extends from the west side of the residence. A curved sidewalk extends from the street to the front porch. The front and side yards have been carefully landscaped with low shrubbery. A large tree is visible behind the home. According to information located in the University of Dubuque Archives, the 13 Club was started by thirteen students in 1915 as a Christian fraternity.
