The trunks are burnt, as is the ground. All of the trees have broken off limbs. Many of the trees are just stumps in the ground. His right hand is holding the butt of his gun and resting the gun over his right soldier. He is looking off towards the left side of the photograph. He is standing on a cleared off path on a hill with a soldier behind him, walking up the hill. The soldier behind him is wearing a helmet and carrying objects in his hands that are at his sides. To the left of the photograph and right of the soldier at the top of the hill is some sort of wheel, possibly for a pulley system. There is also a fence at the side. There appears to be a camp at the base of the hill, in the background, as well as flat lands beyond the camp with trees and shrubbery. This area was a part of the Battle of St. Mihiel near the Apremont forest in France.]]></dcterms:description>

    <dcterms:description><![CDATA[Two Allied soldiers during World War I stand next to a German 42cm artillery piece used for siege warfare by the German Empire.  The barrel of this is 42 cm in diameter and is possibly known as the Gamma-Gerät or Gamma Mörser. The two soldiers are wearing there uniforms with their caps on their heads, jackets buttoned, baggy pants, boots, and puttees, which were leg wrappings. The 42 cm artillery piece appears to be standing next to a train. The windows are open and people are looking out at the artillery. It also appears to be on a train bed or a platform where it can be moved. One of the soldiers may be Peter Hoffman.]]></dcterms:description>

There is a tripod of trees branches standing up against one another and over some of the shells. The ground is visible with weed-like grass.
