A large covered entry way frames the double doors on the south side of the structure. A smaller arched entry is visible around the front door. Awnings cover most windows, and a wide chimney on the front side of the home extends above the roof. A pergola is visible in the rear yard. Sidewalks extend away from the front door, and also from the side door to the street. According to the Encyclopedia Dubuque, the architectural design was copied from an original photograph taken at Wolver Hampton, England. Nine different types of stone were used in the structure. The home was renovated in 2009, and a commemorative plaque was installed in front of the residence. It reads in part: “Model electric home erected in 1924 by John G. Kuehnle to demonstrate the possibilities of modern scientific planning and building methods.” Mr. Kuehnle was the owner of the Dubuque Electric Company.
